Dos Palillos Restaurant

Again, I searched for the top 10 restaurants in Barcelona. This time, though I decided to only tackle a few. Reasons: I am trying to maintain my weight while enjoying fresh baked bread (why can’t I have it in America???), and handmade gelato. And also, I have been receiving recommendations and strangely enough those restaurants did not make it to the top 10. Being me, I value my friends suggestion more than TimeOut so I reserved the places for other places like Abac, Tickets, Comerc 24, etc.

Nevertheless, I took the walk to Dos Palillos for a try. And I am so so so glad I made it. I will take my little sister – Bella here when she comes (if she decides to move those fingers to book tickets…). So a little bit of background on the chef, I know I usually don’t share these facts, but I got…

Pepito Barcelona

Il Dolce Stilo

Spain has always been one of the top places in the world when it comes to food. I confess that over these 2 years I’ve never tried so much different food and tasted so much wine. In Barcelona, I visited a wide range of restaurants, from small and cheap locals to prestigious locations renown worldwide. But recently, a new restaurant caught my attention: Pepito.

With a prestigious location between Rambla Cataluña and Paseo de Gracia, Pepito specializes (evidently) in Pepitos. This classic meal turns into a gourmet dish with ingredients such as Brie cheese, foie and pimientos de padrón (the typical green Galician peppers with a salty touch).

The menu holds a variety of plates such as salads exquisitely finished, meats, tartar, cod with honey and gourmet tapas. As well, many D.O. from Spain are available for you to choose and marry your meal to boost each flavor.

Restaurants in Barcelona, Spain 2013, Part 2

Restaurant Xaloc

Xaloc (Carrer de la Palla 13) in the Barri Gotic was closest to fine dining even though it was  a Tapas bar. It became our favorite dinnerplace in Barcelona. It  was situated in the middle of the beautiful old town and It looked very tempting from outside. There were big windows, so you could see all the Iberian hams hanging at the wall and a very nice wine bar area.

Because we had eaten Tapa´s in the afternoon, we were not so hungry so we skipped the entrees. Our main courses were Entrecote de Buey (13€) and Salmon Plancha (11€). Those portions were delicious!

Entercotee was done very well. It didn´t look anything special but taste  and quality of the meat was excellent.

The salmon with asparagus was delicious with a creme tasted with lime.

We were a bit sorry that we had eaten so big…

Cerveceria Catalana

A typical tapas restaurants in Eixample, close to Plaza Catalunya. This is one of my two favorites tapas place of Barcelona.

A great battle has been going on between Cerveceria Catalana and Ciutat Comtal with my friends of Barcelona, but I have to say, both are amazingly good.

I have to recommend the mini hamburguesa, my favorite ever. A mini bun with fresh steak and caramelized onions. I would go to Barcelona only for that…  Nevertheless I have also to recommend some montaditos (a typical tapa dish – a small sandwich topped with either meat or fish). The montadito de ternera and montadito de salmon, with the traditional spanish pan con tomate will make you happy!

For lunch or dinner between 20 and 25 € (including cerveza* or clara*) depending on how hungry you are…

tapas bar: sagardi @barcelona, spain

DAY 69

Mafu, this place would score a 10…

Milk bar and bistro, Barcelona

I must admit I am really lucky. Once walking around Barcelona and searching for a breakfast/brunch and soymilk latte I found this small fancy bistro and it comes out to be a popular brunch bar in Barca. Breakfast is served till 16.00. So perfect for a hangover chill. Salmon eggs Benedict and pancakes are a must.
Carrer d’En Gignàs 21 in the centre.

Restaurant Blau bcn

A Gastronomic Experience With Mediterranean Flair

blau bcn

blau bcn

Just a two minute walk from the Diagonal in the Left Eixample, you will find one of Barcelona’s best gastronomic experiences, known to the Barcelonese for its fine dining and relaxed atmosphere.

Listed by TimeOut Barcelona among its Top 10 Chefs, blau bcn‘s owner Marc Roca provides his customers with a delicate combination of flavours, tastes and aromas inspired by the Mediterranean ingredients used in his creations at his first Blau restaurant in Begur on the Costa Brava.

Using the best produce and seafood, Marc conjures up a sensory delight that is a fusion of international cuisines with Catalan, such as his Thai grouper salad as a starter, or a selection of meats and carpaccios prepared to perfection and presented with creative flair. The desserts, also created in-house, are sensual, original and often surprising and there is a large range of wines, including those from up-and-coming Catalan and Spanish vineyards as well as a comprehensive international selection.

Friendly welcome

The setting is stylishly discreet and comfortable as well as functional and the service is appropriately unhurried but efficient, with Marc keeping an eye on proceedings and often circulating among the clientele with a friendly greeting. Creative photoimages decorate the walls and diners can view food being prepared in the sparkling kitchen through the partition window.

Prices are excellent value for the quality of dining with a midday 3-course menu at €20, as well as an extensive à-la-carte selection and, best of all, you can experience all the delights of blau bcn‘s cuisine in the evening at even better prices with the half-portion option!

Opening hours: 13.30-16.30 20.30-23.30 (Closed Sundays)
