La Mercè 2013

Barcelona4Seasons's Blog

While the start of the summer is celebrated massively during the night of Sant Joan, the end of the summer is celebrated even more massively with La Mercè.

La Mercè is the patron saint of Barcelona and is celebrated on September 24. This year, Barcelona will turn once again into one big party from September 20 until September 24. More than 600 activities take place all over the city, ranging from open doors in museums to Catalan traditions.

It is a celebration of creativity, modernity, equality and multiculturalism, but also of traditions. Let’s start with the traditions, which go back until 1871. Nelly Packs Her Trunk

DSCN4774DSCN4807DSCN4805Being an English student I’m often mocked when I can’t find the words to describe something, but I really don’t think that they exist for last night! After work we went to the correfoc, the closing event of the Festa Mayor de Gràcia, and it was whilst having a drink that we heard the first drums that signalled the start. Cue a large group of people throwing money onto the table and running in the direction of the crowd! Pushing our way through the throngs was a recurring theme that night which just added to the brilliant atmosphere and people danced to the almost tribal music as we headed for the flashes of light the we could see overhead – it almost felt quite dark and sinister but so exciting at the same time. And when we finally were at the front the show was spectacular. People dressed from head…

Barcelona´s Eventful August

After the major events of spring and early summer, such as Primavera Sound, Sonisphere and Sonar Festival, there´s else to Barcelona besides the relaxing beaches.

If you live in the Catalan capital or plan to visit, here´s a list with a variety of events we highly recommend during August:

1. Piknic Electronic – Every Sunday 2nd of June – 22nd of September in Montjuic

As stated in their mission, ¨Piknic Electronic aims to bring family and friends together while enjoying electronic music¨ and Montjuic is an excellent location for it´s purpose. With special activities dedicated for kids, areas for adults, music by some of the most famous DJs, this festival is a great choice to spend a summer Sunday!

Electronic Picnic Barcelona

2. Grácia Festival – the most famous street parties of Barcelona, form the 15th – 23d of August.

Montjuïc Madness! Picnik Electronik 2013

Hola Chicos!

Summer is in full swing here in Barcelona, the shades are out, the bikini tops are on show, so what could be more fun than heading to the gorgeous Montjuic gardens in the heart of Barcelona to have a big ol’ picnic with some friends?! However, as you can tell from the image above, this was no ordinary picnic. This was much much more.

Like many of you, I had no clue what Piknic Electronik was about. To be honest I wasn’t really keen on going, a picnic in 32 c heat and electronic music- errmm no thanks. However, what I’ve learnt from my time abroad is that you’ve got to grab any opportunity your given. Adopting the YOLO, Never Say Never attitude is always the way because you never know you might just have fun!

And boy did I have fun! It was amazing! A melting…
