Cerveceria Catalana

A typical tapas restaurants in Eixample, close to Plaza Catalunya. This is one of my two favorites tapas place of Barcelona.

A great battle has been going on between Cerveceria Catalana and Ciutat Comtal with my friends of Barcelona, but I have to say, both are amazingly good.

I have to recommend the mini hamburguesa, my favorite ever. A mini bun with fresh steak and caramelized onions. I would go to Barcelona only for that…  Nevertheless I have also to recommend some montaditos (a typical tapa dish – a small sandwich topped with either meat or fish). The montadito de ternera and montadito de salmon, with the traditional spanish pan con tomate will make you happy!

For lunch or dinner between 20 and 25 € (including cerveza* or clara*) depending on how hungry you are…

tapas bar: sagardi @barcelona, spain

DAY 69

Milk bar and bistro, Barcelona

I must admit I am really lucky. Once walking around Barcelona and searching for a breakfast/brunch and soymilk latte I found this small fancy bistro and it comes out to be a popular brunch bar in Barca. Breakfast is served till 16.00. So perfect for a hangover chill. Salmon eggs Benedict and pancakes are a must.
Carrer d’En Gignàs 21 in the centre.

Barcelona: Before going to Gracia

Not Only Eating

The boundary between Gràcia and l’Eixample is a good option before visit Gracia (or after!). Here you have some recommendations:

Bar Mut (Pau Claris St.,192): little bar of tapas, carefully made. There are a few tables, it is necessary to book before going.  It hides a  secret: If you go at night, ask about Bar Mutis and you could drink a cocktail in a charming place.

La Pepita (Còrsega Street, 343): its name is not a person, it refers to a kind of sandwich. You can taste there sandwiches, elaborated tapas and a home-made vermouth. It is open a from breakfast to evening!

Adonis (Bailen St. 188) In the corner of Bailen St. with Còrsega St., near Passeig St.Joan, you will find this bar, in which you can have a coffee, drink, some tapas and even a simple menu, because it is open all day. Two floors, decoration…

Gràcia (III) – Vermut time

Not Only Eating

These days you can enjoy popular celebrations in Festes de Gràcia. Besides viewing the decorated streets, this is a good time to know some bars in the area if you want to taste a traditional vermut.

Bodega Quimet (Vic St.23): Just a few tables in a traditional place recovered from the past. Vermut at 1 euros and a varied sort of tapas (hig quality sausage from Extremadura)

Vermuteria del Tano (Joan Blanques St.,17 or Bruniquer St.30): There are always ready the ingredients for a vermut in a traditional and authentic setting.

Costa Brava (Alzina St.58): little bodega in a quiet place of the area. Any sophistication, but good tapas and vermut.

costa brava

Gata Mala (Rabassa St.37): to go early in the evening, you can get beer (caña) and a free tapa. At night you can taste a gin tonic.

Where can you try the best tapas in Barcelona?

La Kukita

You are for a short visit in Barcelona? You want to try the best tapas that the city has to offer?

Then this is the place:

Restaurante Catalana in Carrer de Mallorca 236, Barcelona, between Rambla de Catalunya and Balmes (walking distance to Metro Diagonal and Metro Passeig de Gracia).

This place is soo good, no wonder that it got a Best Tapas Award in 2010. Though prices are not low, it is always crowded, which says much in favor of the quality of the offer.

It comes with beautiful terasse and enough space for eating inside. Unfortunately you can not reserve a table, so my advice come earlier to catch the best seat for your food enjoyment. 🙂

Bar Leo @ c/ Sant Carles, 34

Bar Leo is an experience. People might not like it, we simply love it. It’s Leokadia’s (the gentle innkeeper) small temple made of tapas, vermuth, and Flamenco. The small room is literally plastered with journals and posters and pictures of Bambino, forniture is anything but fancy, food is simple, and if you are lucky you can happen to be there when some tocaore is playing guitar. At the end of July Leo was in Italy for some vacation, and we organized a weekend in Barcelona with the good-old-friends he lived with in Gex and by chance other friends from his hometown where in town. The sun was shining brighter on Barcelona in that days.
